Dismal Legends Live In Swamp

Title: DISMAL LEGENDS LIVE IN SWAMP
There are many stories about ghosts, ghouls, mysterious lights and animals in the Great Dismal Swamp National Wildlife Refuge. There are legends about white deer and snakes, witches and spirits. These wild tales are such a part of swamp lore, few challenge their existence. They enjoy keeping these stories alive to pass down through generations.
Throughout the years, magazines and newspapers have published stories about the eccentric inhabitants of the Dismal Swamp. According to local folklore, the swamp has served as home to supernatural spirits, witches, dragons, ghouls and ghosts. There have been reports of mysterious lights around Lake Drummond and sounds, particularly at nighttime, resembling screams.
Another legend of the swamp is that an apparition of an Indian brave and a white deer can be seen in the dim recesses of the forest.

Thaere are so many interesting stories and places in VA-I wish they were all in a book. Witch Duck Road, Pagan River, Dragon Run Creek-just some of the facinating place names. A couple years ago, there were stories of specters at the toll area of a brand new highway just outside Richmond. Dismal Swamp has filled with stories for generations.
