Seldom Scene: Celebrating Beltane

Author: Vicki Cronis-Nohe   Source: The Virginian-Pilot

Title: SELDOM SCENE: CELEBRATING BELTANE

Beltane is one of the eight sabbats that pagans celebrate, tied to the seasons and the transition times between them. Beltane, which means "bright fire," is a celebration of spring and fertility and occurs halfway between the spring equinox and the summer solstice.

This year's celebration was held at The Mariners' Musuem park in Newport News the first weekend of May, and if you watch the video above, you will get a pretty good idea of how they celebrate Beltane - lots of drumming and singing, a dance around the maypole, and good fellowship.

You know, this was a good article without any bashing (until you read some of the comments) , but they could have at least capitalized Pagans, Druids, Universalists...oh, wait. It's Virginia. Never mind.

Looks Fun And Warm May 16th. at 12:17:02 am EDT

Sphinxring (Olympia, Washington) - Email Me

Beltane was cold pouring rain here in Western Washington. We had fun and a moving ceremony, but in a big tent in the pounding down deluge. Still wonderful to put winter behind and welcome the flowers of spring!
To run around in the warm and green and have outside fires... Maybe next time!
