Political Opposites Sanders, Barr Oppose Erosion Of Civil Liberty

Author: Darren M. Allen, Vermont Press Bureau Source: The Times Argus

Title: POLITICAL OPPOSITES SANDERS, BARR OPPOSE EROSION OF CIVIL LIBERTY
Bob Barr is an unabashed conservative on most issues, a former congressman who was one of the chief supporters of impeaching then-President Clinton and who, as early as this week, defended embattled former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay.
Bernie Sanders is a self-avowed Socialist who rails against multinational corporations, outsourced jobs and just about anything for which Republicans stand.
But on Wednesday, the two men stood together in Montpelier in denouncing what they see as a growing erosion of Americans' civil liberties under President Bush and the GOP-controlled Congress.

Isn't this the same Bob Barr that was actively (with Bush) trying to get the military to overturn it's decision to recognize Wicca as a religion? And wouldn't 'Freedom of Religion' count as a civil liberty? Sounds like a hypocrite to me. I guess that only makes sense, though...our country is run by hypocrites.

Yes, there is an erosion of civil liberties in the country, some engineered, some given. Ever since the Red Scare days we have been subject to more than a few seeking to gain power any way they could-- either by capitalizing on existing circumstances, or by creating their own atmosphere in order to scare the sheep into doing what they want. And while existing circumstances sometimes made it necessary, at least the public often knew the reasons for those measures. It isn't true for engineered purposes. We knew the reasons for 9\11. But not the reasons for Iraq- the second time. We were only told about weapons they may have possessed- but by the time they were found to be less than true- we were already embroiled. And now they are planning on imbedding us again in an expansion of hostilities, engineering us into yet another disaster to dwarf the last five hurricanes put together. Bush has been a leader all right. But he's not one I voted for-- and one I hope to see exit the white house-- preferably on a rail.

I couldn't believe that people in this country could again be duped. All because of a morality capaign? What morality? I haven't seen Bush do anything that's even come close to being morally right. I hope his true colors will shine once and for all for the world to see. I used to be a patriotic person. I'm now sometimes embarassed to be an American. But I think most Americans, like myself really still do care about our country. Hopefully someday we can become a great nation again, with our minds focused on better things than war mongering and corporate greed. More like a better life for all. If all the money that was spent on the war was spent on nationwide health care and a better education system. And that's just to name a few. I'm certain that the current plans to return to the moon must have some military aspect..of course. I don't know, I'm just disgusted with our admininstration. I know we can do better.

What we can try to impeach a a President for having sex, But we cann't impeach a President for killing our young people? Especially in a patently illeagal war?
The GOP now acts like they had no idea what Bush has been doing for the last six years.
Now that his lies are coming home to roost does both politcal parties now scream that he is an incompentent and dangerous.

I agree with both of them.... To quote- "Bush thumbing his nose at the constitution...." WHY HASN'T THE SHRUB BEEN IMPEACHED???? It should have been done a long time ago, and I think the country would have been better off.... what say?

"Barr, who recently wrote a book called "The Meaning of Is: The Squandered Impeachment and Wasted Legacy of William Jefferson Clinton," called Bush's civil liberties stance "dangerous" and urged Congress to start standing up to what he views as an erosion of their power."
Is this the same Bob Barr who'd been giving Clinton orders, when the CIA was working through Arkansas? I don't think the prosecution by Ken Starr can be proven untainted. To what party to Lawyers belong, whether as the best Politicians Money can buy, or as Prostitute Duelists?
Be that as it may, when Bush threatens Cybil Rites, he's an embarrassment to all Dyslexics.
