"We're Not Out To Hurt Anybody."

Author: Robin Woodson Source: keprtv.com (WA)

Title: "WE'RE NOT OUT TO HURT ANYBODY."
It may not be what you believe, but it's still a religion.
Pagans say they're usually misunderstood and rarely given a fair shot.
This is no movie, no Hollywood set, no game of dress-up.
You're going inside a very real and very reclusive religious ritual, performed by Pagans.
They call themselves Wiccans.

Mysteries Child (Garfield, Arkansas) - Email Me

Evil is out there, at least in the form of people who choose to embrace the harmful aspects of their own natures.
That crosses all labels.
And then there's pettiness.
Like sniping at someone who, seemingly anyway, tried to do something good.
Even if they did do a somewhat sophomoric job of it.
What would you rather see-- a positive tenth-grade level article, or one that's good enough to be a Master's thesis but just happens to argue that we're all raping children, hexing our neighbors, and sacrificing housepets???

"Not satan or his minions the hamsters."
You, too, have met the hamsters? I have a cat that would LOVE to meet the hamsters.
On the article, did anyone else take the earlier post-writer's advice and click on the little camera icon to see the newscast? Everything makes more sense in the form of the video.

but as I have learned, others may be. After the beating my husband and I received, I am very careful. Only recently have I begun wearing my pent out in the open again but there are many places now where I will most likely never show it again. Where as before I would have not even thought about hiding it.
I wonder why, sometimes, a mainstream paper or station runs articles like this. Are they really interested, attempting to impart knowledge on the masses or do they find it amusing, are they warning people of us in their communities so we can be run out or taken care of?
A year ago I would have been thrilled to see this article and now, I am not so sure. I truly wonder what motivates them.
As far as evil is concerned, I know that people choose to embrace what they want. They embrace what is in their souls, if it is evil then that's what they are. However, I also believe that we are all here to learn something important, maybe some souls need to learn what it feels like to commit horrible acts of violence against others. I know it sounds like a lesson no one would want to learn but maybe they have no choice. And, I believe that when it is our time to be called home, we go, in whatever manner was set out for us. Sometimes it is difficult to live with, although there are times it makes dealing with it slightly easier.
Now I'm rambling so... Blessings of the Day.

While I will admit that the article made me a little crazy to read, I got the message which was loud and clear "THE PAGAN RELIGION IS NOT EVIL AND NOR ARE THE PEOPLE" Can the rest of us please grow on up and be adults and see someone making an effort to help us be more accepted and quit trying to pick the poor child apart!!!
Small not on the Satanic thing: I have a friend who is a Satanist, and whether it is the norm for Satanist or not, she does actually worship the Christian version of Satan. Her childhood upbringing created in her such a hatred of Christianity that she wanted to rebel and be exactly what Christianity does not want. She started with Wicca but it wasnt enough so she moved to Satanism, and is doing some form or other of it now...my point is whether it is the norm for Satanists or not, there are those out there who do worship the evil anti Christian Devil.
And the last thing, for as much as I see on here how much people gripe about the attempts of people to help Paganism be accepted, I have to wonder if they want to be accepted or remain outcasts for ever....

Let somebody be nice! Typos don't hurt anybody. Can we not nit-pick when somebody's at least trying to get it right?

In fact, it seems that the writer did a good job in not inject any of the writer's own personality and view whatsoever. They went with what I assume were available general facts. It appears that the writer was just trying to get facts out there in defense of us to let folks know what the situation really is and that we're not gonna boil the local kids.

. . The typos and incorrect words ("Paganist" for instance) that other posters complained about have been fixed. Unlike most journalists, they actually seem to listen.
It was a great headline and not, on the whole, a bad article at all. Especially coming out of Yakima!

At first I thought that the article was badly done but, after reading all the comments, I took a second look at it. If you look under the authors name, there is a small camera icon which will open a new window if clicked. The 'article' is nothing more than a transcript of the video interviews. Unfortunately, stripped of their video context, the words themselves seem random and disjointed. Ignore the 'article' and watch the video instead.

I can't believe she misspelled my last name! It is "Neifert". Not "Niefurt". Eek! I can't believe that I didn't notice when I watched it last night.
I did notice that she called us "Paganists". Lol. I tried to correct her prior to it being aired, but she must've forgotten. And, that does sound strange to call us reclusive when we are open to all religions and hold public celebrations. Lol. Oh, well.
Please, keep in mind that Robin Woodson is very new to journalism, and this was her very first special report at KIMA. So, let's not give her too much a hard time, folks.
Besides, she told me that she plans on doing more news videos on Paganism, and would love to get some footage at a Pagan Pride event. Wouldn't want to scare her off.
Blessed Be!

I read this article earlier and do not believe the author understands one whit of what was written. If there was an editor, that individual should be sacked post haste. The article does read like something engineered for the talking head to run through just before going to a commercial break. I do recall talking to an Army Quartermaster a few years ago about a paper we were writing for school. She indicated that her style of writing employed heavy use of simple words and short sentences. Apparently the rule of thumb was that the level should be readable to a 4th grader. I found that funny because there are college students who do not have that level of reading ability. Hmm. I wonder if the talking heads need to have a 4th grade reading level? The bottom line I take away is that journalism could use a serious uplift.

I agree that each sentence being a paragraph looks as if the author of this doesn't know basic writing. It looks more like the web person who posted this on the web site simply copied from the Teleprompter. That's why the sentences are so short and it makes this painfully hard to stand while reading it. Or it could have been done through text messaging. Obviously no one there knows how to make a decent sentence.
Sound bites work on radio or TV but when used in the written word it looks like the author thins the reader has an attention deficit problem. The way it's written, commas included, looks a lot like it was copied, as I said, from the on-air script. Apparently news anchors need to be reminded to pause so they can say their word clearly. Sheesh!!
Showing Buckland's " Complete Book of Witchcraft" on the web site is slightly better than showing a Halloween witch, but hardly typical of what many Wiccans ascribe to.
The thought did occur to me that this was meant to be sent to mobile phones. Still, it would grate on English majors.

If they are inviting people,it isn't totally reclusive. They are just doing what many others are doing, fighting for a chance to be accepted for what they are. The writer however, needs to go back to writing class. The sentences are somewhat choppy and those typos need to be fixed.

Ursyl (Murrysville, Pennsylvania) - Email Me

When they're inviting anyone of any faith to come see their Sunday services?
Did the author even read what was written? Did the editors?
Maybe they need a dictionary so they can look up what "reclusive" means.
