Update: Green Bay Alderman Asks Mayor To Remove Nativity

Author: Paul Srubas, Gannett Wisconsin Newspapers Source: Appleton Post Crescent (WI)

Title: GREEN BAY ALDERMAN ASKS MAYOR TO REMOVE NATIVITY
An alderman who helped install a controversial nativity scene on a City Hall ledge, but later changed tack, has asked Mayor Jim Schmitt to order the display removed.
City Council Vice President Chris Wery submitted a letter to the mayor's office asking that the display come down to help restore peace over the issue and to give the city the chance to avoid a lawsuit and develop a policy for future displays.

...that the time is fast coming for us to stand up and make ourselves heard by everyone. If the only way to do that is to take people like the mayor to court, then so be it. We can't allow the "Christian American Nation" to overrun everyone in this country who isn't Christian. To do so is to defy everything our ancestors fought for.

What kind of ego-trip is he on. Or what drugs & why isn't he sharing? How could he possibly convince himself that a nativity scene, by itself, could be constitutional? His start at making it pass muster sure fizzled out fast - one of the comments to one of the multiple articles said that hizzoner the mayor fit the description of the man on the ladder vandalizing the wreath. Sounds like someone told him about those witches and he wanted to make it go away. The whole thing has sounded fishy to me since only the pagans got a symbol up there. Usually the jews would volunteer a menorah and other groups would put something on such a display.
Keep it simple. Government = no religious display. Cheaper that way too.

allow the nativity scene to remain. And buy the way, wasn't this time of year a Pagan Holiday first ? Someone needs to educate that entire community. Perhaps the best way to do that is in the lawcourts.

Removing the nativity would restore peace in the area, especially since the Mayor did declare a moratorium on all religious symbols. It would be better if his policy precluded all religious symbols and allowed for secular style ones. His keeping the nativity is a blatant disregard for his own ruling.

You see - then can be made to reason. To some this may sound bad, but let's look at the facts - on one side of their face they say "Oh SURE, sure, sure, we'd love to have you at our table." but then we see their true face and what they really mean is that they want us ON their table. If I were naive, I'd feel bad that it came to such extremes, but for the sake of all pagans, considering how radically extremist xtian this country is in fact becoming, I just can't afford to. It's time for us to finally stand up and be counted. They want to start something, it's up to us to make damn sure that we finish it, otherwise, who knows where we and our way of life end up. If this means it comes down to multi-million dollar lawsuits, then SO MOTE IT BE.
