Whitewater Rumored To Have Witches

Author: Ted Sullivan (blog)   Source: Janesville Gazette (WI)

Title: WHITEWATER RUMORED TO HAVE WITCHES

When a Whitewater man was arrested inside the city’s water tower in June, he said to the officer: “Do you believe in witches … I have to detonate this tower and kill all the witches.”

The man also had a butcher knife to protect himself from witches, according to the criminal complaint, and he had been drinking whiskey all night long.

Although he was charged with two felonies and two misdemeanors, the man can’t be accused of having a healthy curiosity.

Whitewater has long been rumored to have a haunted past.

Some Common Sense Here... Jul 30th. at 8:38:57 pm EDT

Rev. Jeanene Hammers (Hillsboro, Oregon) - Email Me

From the article:

According to the Web site, other rumors about Whitewater’s haunted history include:

Four people have died after reading a secret book that is now kept locked in the university’s library.

The cemeteries in Whitewater form a triangle.

The former Morris Pratt Institute was built to communicate with spirits.

And the city has a series of underground tunnels.

Common sense reactions, in order.

*Four peole have died after reading a book? How much time elasped? How many people have died after reading the bible? Tom Clancy? Lewis Carroll?

*They form a triangle. Well let's see. There are 9.835 households in that town. So, not a large city by any means. Doing a search, I come up with 10 cemeteries, and according to Google maps, it does NOT look like a triange to me - unless you leave out Rock Creek. And so what? Isn't the Holy Trinity represented by a triangle? How is THAT haunted???

Any area that has a tall building can have the rep of "used to communicate with spirits." Are you sure they were not trying to contact aliens???

Underground tunnels. Yes, sewer systems, subways, and anything connected to a man hole are surely haunted!

Oh get real. They guy was a paranoid that got drunk and let his delusions get away with him. Lock him in detox, and don't let him watch The Wizard of Oz any more!

Is there a high rate of drug use in Whitewater?

Oh boy. Now the Christian comments have started on the blog. I gave my 2 cents but I fear it may get ugly. Take a peek and post if you care to.

BTW, my hubby went to UWW and never heard these stories.

Looks Like A Good Movie Jul 29th. at 10:33:18 am EDT

Sounds like this guy is an idiot.. but hey, if it werent for the article i never would have heard about the movie this soon.... hmmm could it be an advertising scheme?

The Spirits Were Indeed With Him... Jul 29th. at 9:48:23 am EDT

bigcat (peoria, Illinois) - Email Me

as he'd been drinking them -a lot.
It's amazing the kind of hysteria an urban legend can cause.
I'd say it was amusing, but the guy was going to dynamite the place and carrying a butcher knife. I could just about guess what he might have done to someone who wasn't a cop.

Just when you thought it couldn't get stranger... Now, I am usually not very touchy when it come to my beliefs, I can giggle at the depitction of witches on old movies (yay Kim Novak!) and I can even smile tolerantly at people using the word "Witch" as an acceptable substitue for the B word. But when I read the comments that were posted on the original website about this article? "I thought they were talking about the Co_eds on campus, . . ." "I thought it was about my Ex-Wife and her friends. . ." wow. THAT was offensive. Or maybe I am being too sensative? Like when people tell me I am going to "burn in Hell." Well, that's nice. And here come the Men in WHite to take you back to your nice padded room. SIgh. . .

Wishing for more tolerance and less hate;

paganSubmissive.

I frequently wonder just WHAT people in the boonier places of the country DO with themselves; they play headgames on themselves that the rest of us left behind in middle school.
