Granny Reynolds Had ‘Pars,' As They Say

Author: Dave Peyton   Source: Charleston Daily Mail (WV)

Title: GRANNY REYNOLDS HAD ‘PARS,' AS THEY SAY

Somewhere in this universe, I suspect Granny Reynolds is smiling down on Marshall University.

Granny, which is what everyone called her, was my great-grandmother and she lived with us for a time before she died. I usually call her "Spooky Old Granny," especially after my uncle determined she was a Pagan and probably a Wiccan, a Pagan sect.

It was said that Granny had "powers," or, as we like to say in West Virginia, she had "pars."

Uncle Delmont, her grandson (yes, Grandma got his name off a can of peaches), lived in Washington, D.C., and told me before he died that he spent hours researching Granny's ways in the Library of Congress. He concluded that Granny was a witch, the name given to members of the Wiccan sect of the Pagan religion.

Now, I know some of you Christian folk are probably shuddering at the thought that there was once a witch in Almost Heaven. If so, then the Christian religion has done its work again.

Aww! I loved that. My mum is in possession of a picture of my great great grandmother on a black horse. She was a midwife. Unfortunately we know nothing about her.

My memorie is not so good at 9:45am when the coffee hasn't kicked in, so... The author is a great American. Give 'em a medal.

Great Article. Nov 7th. at 9:12:21 am EST

Touch Of Death Nov 7th. at 3:42:29 am EST

No I think it was a power surge. When wiccans do group magic, they sometime fumble the energy and knockout the leader. In martial arts they call this the Touch of Death. It can knock out or kill a person. They also know how to revive the victim. Something useful when using large amount of energy.

I'm pretty sure I could have gotten time off had I asked my teachers, but it feels better to have your holidays officially recognized.

I hope we see more policies like this.

Real Pagans Nov 6th. at 12:13:32 pm EST

Shadow Dragon (nashville, Tennessee) - Email Me

This granny is a real pagan. Not a neo-pagan. Real pagans must use magic to survive. It’s just a tool to them that gives them an edge in life. There is no three fold rule in real paganism. Spells are prone to mishap even when you do good with them. They must curse in order to survive the burning times. She knows a death spell. To say that’s wrong means your just giving in to the xians. I was mistreated by Wiccans for wanting powers she got. Owning a weapon doesn’t mean your going to use it on everyone you hate.
