Of Europe, Constitutions, and Christ

Author: Joe Eldred Source: The Sierra Times

Title: OF EUROPE, CONSTITUTIONS, AND CHRIST
Last week, Italian news agency ANSA reported that a draft of the European Union's proposed constitution does not mention God nor Europe's Christian roots. According to World Net Daily, the long-awaited preamble to the document used the words "spiritual", "religious" and "humanistic" to describe Europe's heritage and references traditions in Europe "nourished by the Greek and Roman civilizations," but makes no reference to God.
This will not be a shock to many Christians, who believe the establishment of the European Union is fulfillment of Biblical prophecy. For example, Image 1 is a European Union poster used to promote European unity. Modeled on Pieter Brueghel's famous 16th century painting "The Tower Of Babel", the poster shows the peoples of Europe rebuilding the tower that God destroyed in Genesis 11. Note the statement shown on the poster "Many Tongues One Voice." Note, also, that the normal European stars have been inverted to a pentagram (an occult symbol).

It still amazes me that some Christians still think nothing existed before they did: no law, no morals, no governments, etc. It is sad that more people do not have to take Latin in high school. That is how I became acquainted w/ pre-Christian society and I thank the Goddess every day for it.

If the government is looking for terrorists, sites like this on the web could be good leads......What really bothers them about Europe being one entity is it's strength in world politics and against America , not some rediculous peice of Hebrew mythology....

There all Irish euros - unfortunitly i cant find were i put the ones from other countries - as i recall frances have liberty on them - i think- and im not sure but some of the countries have difrent backs depending on the coinage ( 1c, 5c, 1E etc)
Each country mints/prints there own money with that countries images etc on it as well as the EU stuff. It was quite fun acualy to have a look trough any change you got and see what countries you got - i think i got a frence and a greek euro when i was in italy.

| Revelations | Jun 6th. at 5:41:26 pm EDT |

by Sedna (Saskatoon, Canada) - wc_xemail

Has anyone else encountered the story that Revelations was actually a set of coded instructions for an insurrection sent by one group of rebellious zealots to another? That version at least provides good movie fodder. If any writers of panoramic pseudohistorical epics are present, consider the concept a gift from Athena (or Sophia.)
I've always felt comfortable in the European Union. If this version of the EU constitution goes through, I'll have to figure out how to spend more time there.

| I Don't Know What The Hades To Call This | Jun 6th. at 5:25:52 pm EDT |

by Katherine (U. of Toronto) - wc_xemail

As some of you know from my previous posts, I'm doing a thesis on Witchcraft at the U. of T.'s Toronto School of Theology. That means I've a pretty good grounding in European/Christian history (yes, including, if not emphasising, the abuses) , and I don't know why in hell anybody pays any attention to the Book of Revelation. For one thing, its inclusion in the 'canonical' New Testament was hotly debated and a near miss; the Orthodox Church has never included it. It's worth mentioning that areas under that Church, while they may have known other abuses, never had a witch-craze. While it is nonsense to adduce one cause for that craze - they were complex and multiple - among them is surely the presence of apocalyptic literature in the Western canon.
I call the author of Revelation (singular! - those fond of quoting it never get it right) 'Migraine John;' I'm convinced whoever it was must have been in the throes of a real brain-breaker, plus a few other symptoms of, possibly, incipient psychosis, as were several of those canonised as saints by the Church.Jesus is quoted as saying that 'you know neither the day nor the hour' of any end-of-the-world; in other words, don't sweat it. The iron person, whose second part of the name i can't remember, my apologies, wrote a very nice and passionate letter. I can only invission some pagan music playing in the background as sort of a pagan patriotism speech. Sorry...just had to say it.. By the way, i would hug anyone with such strong conviction in the face just out of principal. I am happy to see others out there of this mind set. BB

| Europa | Jun 6th. at 3:21:20 pm EDT |

by Rich K (NJ) - wc_xemail

Anybody else notice the bit about the Euro coin and his exceedingly tenuous connection to the passage in Revelations that the writer quoted?
Those of us who are up on Greek Mythology (more than a few here, I'd imagine) know that the image is that of the Phoenician princess Europa being carried off to Crete by Zeus in the form of a bull during one of His more notable libidinous jaunts. Anyone with a modicum of intelligence can deduce where Europe gets its name and why this image is fitting for the coin.
Fundies look for "signs" in anything they can. The earlier post using the comparison to the writings of Nostradamus is an excellent example. If they look hard enough, they can find anything. It reminds me of schoolboys looking for the word "sex" in the hair of a model in a magazine ad.
Blessed Be, --Rich K

Not all Americans, nor all citizens of the world are Christian. In reflecting that a goverment of the people should govern all the people, the insertion of Christianity into the myriad constitutions would basically omit the rights of others. If Wicca was the predominant religion around the world and you were Christian at that time how would you feel about having the trappings of that religion inserted into governmental documents that are suppose to protect your rights and reflect your country as a Christian? Would you not feel a bit distressed in a legal battle about your religious rights if the Wiccan Reed were posted in stone at the entrance of the courtroom. In short, Christians - your not the only ones out here and you never have been. The Untited States of America was built on the principles of Liberty and freedom, not the bible. If you want a Theocracy then go to Iran where the religious ideals of the government justify the destruction of anyone who is not of like mind. By the way, the emblem used to represent the Wiccan Religion is a 5 pointed star with a single point up. So any star could be called an occult symbol. There are 50 of them on the US flag. Look up the meaning of the word occult. It means hidden. Do you know why it was hidden? Because people like you got into power and forced any other religion into submission. Its our country too and dont think we wont fight for our rights just as we would fight (and have fought) for yours. -Anon

The Bible is not a good reference material to quote, anyone who has studied world religions knows that every Christian religion interprets the statements of the book differently. The statements are like the predictions of Nostradamus, if you look for somehting specific you will find a passage to back up your position, even if it conflicts with another passages and views. They are open to interpretation.
And as someone else pointed out, the European history shows heavy influence of other religions including pre-Christian Pagan cultures.

| Geez, Talk About Misrepresentation | Jun 6th. at 9:41:35 am EDT |

I guess facts can always be manipulated to fit the belief. This author says the following quotation from the constitution affirms Jesus:
"Done in Convention by the Unanimous Consent of the States present the Seventeenth Day of September in the Year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and Eighty seven and of the Independence of the United States of America the Twelfth In Witness whereof We have hereunto subscribed our Names.... "
Um, is it "in the Year of our Lord" that does it? No, that's just the standard way of writing out AD when, in a formal document, you want to write out the entire date rather than the shorthand of 9/17/1787 AD. It shows a Christian influence on our calender, not our constitution.
Pretty weak argument for a Christian nation, don't you think?

. . .The Sierra Times calls itself "An Internet Publication for Real Americans." Wow, Native Americans do need their own major internet publication! Wait, I doubt that's what it means. Arrogance, pure and simple.
As for Revelations, well I read the Bible to better defend my own beliefs, and has anyone noticed that Revelations seems to be completely opposite of what Jesus taught? Still, I guess Fundies need their devil and Rapture...though, personally, I'd like to rap upon their heads at times.
A good old, *whap* "What are you thinking!?!?" seems to be in order many days of the year.
