Arbitration: Dealing with Takers & Creeps

Overview: Since our site launch in 1997 we have received countless email that calls/demands for the removal of an individual or group from our Witches of the World pages based on a wide variety of accusations. Although we have never addressed this formally, we have decided to offer our thoughts.

Some of these accusations are serious and some are petty. We are constantly approached to decide who is "valid" and who is "not a real witch". For several reasons Wren, myself and the Witchvox staff have little desire to play Judge, Jury or Executioner in matters such as these.

Most of these situations are what is commonly known as a WitchWar. WitchWars offer much value to those of us that learn from them. You can learn from them or simply repeat them. That choice is yours. (visit our WitchWars pages for 47 pages on this topic)

The WitchVox staff does not engage in local skirmishes.

As stated on the entrance page to the Witches' Voice (since our first day online)

Neutrality: We offer Pagan Political Neutrality to all God/Goddess Earth-Based Traditions and Solitary Practitioners that follow the Rede, the Law of Three or a similar, compatible Code of Ethics. .

With World-Wide estimates in the millions, the modern pagan community has every type of personality you can imagine. Like all communities, the Pagan community does have its share of criminals, takers and I, Me mine folks. Mercifully they are a tiny minority.

We DO indeed care about the emotional and physical protection of those that use WOTW for networking. Trouble is we don't know the players involved and can't look into their eyes. We have "jumped the gun" in the past and have learned many hard lessons. One of the critical lessons in life is that there are always two sides to a story.

We do the best we can in situations such as those mentioned above. In fact, there are several individuals that are NOT welcome at this domain. They are blocked from listing and shunned from our lives. In most cases, criminal behavior was involved. These are people that need professional help and we have neither the skills nor the time to help them effectively. What we CAN do is NOT celebrate their agendas.

There are two reasons for removal from our listings.

We will TEMPORARILY Remove Individual or Group listings based on...
  • Invalid Email/URL Address: We have every desire to offer you a valuable listing of contacts and resources, this means we work hard to keep this section clean. We "Ping" all email addresses or Website URLs on a 30-90 day basis, any and all "user unknown", "mailbox over limit" or "404 - page not found" results will be automatically removed. If this happens to you, feel free to resubmit your listings.

We will PERMANENTLY Remove Individuals or Groups listings based on...
(a partial list...)
  • Criminal Behavior: If you can substantiate criminal behavior (send us the police report) of an individual or Key member of a Coven, Group or Org. We will remove their listing(s) or put them on hold while a civil/criminal trial is in progress

  • hateful Conduct: We will remove any individual, Group or website that preaches or alludes to preaching HATE in email or on their site.

  • Adult Sites or Agendas: Witchvox is a family-friendly site (our mission is best served with a wide audience - read: NOT being blocked by some search engines), it is our desire to be accessible to many people as possible. Although we don't personally care about, or judge, anyone's sexual desires or needs, for reasons stated we don't list these types of sites.

  • Deception: We do not list Websites or personal listings that are a false or misleading front to a personal cash venture. If the bottom line is building a customer base we expect that to be clear in the listing. No other Pagan Websites celebrates Pagan commercial ventures more than the Witches' Voice (we list over 1, 000 of them), all we ask for is honesty.

  • Multiple Complaints If we receive numerous complaints (based on the nature of the complaints) from many different people about an individual, Group or website we reserve the option to remove them.

  • Theft of any kind: We will remove any website or individual that is caught stealing graphics, text, email addresses or html from another Web site. If YOU need to use someone else's work on your website, simply ask the creator for permission to use.

  • Spamming: WitchVox has a "Zero Tolerance" stance against any website or individual that has a history of sending unsolicited mass email for any commercial or noncommercial means. Takers are not welcome here.

Do we enjoy this part of "our job"? Sorry no, frankly speaking we have much better things to do. If you suspect and more importantly CAN prove that someone or some group is engaged in criminal behavior we highly encourage your to involve your local law enforcement agencies.

The Pagan community doesn't cover up for our criminals nor do we condone their behavior. It is our belief that that this activity is NOT correct or for the good of all.

We choose to celebrate the other 99.9% of the community that are good people and that have so much to offer us all.

You are more special that you can possible imagine.
