School Official Reactions Due To An "Occult" Scare.
Dear School Administrator,
Every year The Witches' Voice sends out information packages to the school districts to educate them on the basic belief systems of Witches and Wiccans. There are probably children in your school system that come from Witch/Wiccan homes. We know that you would want to be sensitive to some of the issues that have been of concern in the past so that you may prevent possible misunderstandings from occurring in your schools.
Please take the time to read the enclosed materials. We publish these documents to educate the general public about certain misconceptions and stereotypical depictions of those who practice the religion of Witchcraft/Wicca. First Amendment protection and The Equal Access Act require accommodation of religious belief-including those who follow Wicca or Witchcraft as a religion. We are sure that, as educators, you will want to be correctly informed on these facts and that you will dispense this information to all who have interaction with children.
The recent situation ( describe situation here, such as: cult scare, graffiti, suicide, violent acts linked to 'occult") has caused a strong public reaction. In an effort to make sense of such a tragic event, it is only human nature to look for reasons and causes that could have been influential in the minds of these children. However, we would suggest that education on the causes of (the situation) and counseling on this topic would prove more useful to your student body than focusing on their clothing color choices or religious preference.
The practice of Witchcraft no more leads to self or socially destructive behavior than the practice of any other religion. To be singled out in this fashion is a violation of our civil rights and certainly sets a bad example of the democratic process for your students. We are sure that you include in your school policies guidelines on tolerance for those of different ethnic and religious backgrounds. Please be aware that we too fall under the protection of such guidelines.
We thank you for your sincere attention to this matter. We have no doubt that your intention is to provide a healthy and safe learning environment for all children regardless of religious preference or sociological background.
Sincerely,
(signature)
