Rumor Control: Witchvox Is NOT In Financial Trouble!

Author: Wren Source: TWV

Title: RUMOR CONTROL: WITCHVOX IS NOT IN FINANCIAL TROUBLE!
Fritz got home last night to a few dozen emails citing this 'press release'/Email:
Subject: "WitchVox May Shut Down in Sept. due to lack of Community Support".
That post was news to us.
This email campaign apparently started yesterday morning via a notice being sent around (we assume) with good intent. We sure thank all of you for your concern and offers of support, but we simply must respond quickly with the facts.
The words in the current email making the rounds were true when they were first posted – but that was back on August 4th of 2003. In our 'weekly update' for that time frame (8/4/03) – and this was one of only 2 times in 7 years that we had to make a plea for support on our front page – we indeed asked the communities for support as we only had funds to keep TWV up and running for one more month.
SEE: http://www.witchvox.com/homepages/hp_2003/hp_20030804.html
But this, too, was true only for about 48 hours (see 'what a difference 48 hours makes' on the same page link above) because YOU immediately responded in a heart-warming and very generous manner!
So, how ARE we doing today?
With the launching of the PayPal option for sponsorship donations on 8/4/2003... sponsorship has been steady and consistent… Strong enough, in fact, so that we have our Web Server costs paid in advance up until January 2005. -- Computers and office supplies are in good shape and -- since we don't take a penny of salary -- we are very happy to report that Witchvox is indeed on solid ground.
Please send this clarification to anyone who has sent you the 'press release' or post it wherever you notice it displayed on newsgroups/message boards - You are more than welcome to sponsor Witchvox – and we appreciate every penny! -- but do know that the “vox kids are alright” and don't plan on shutting down in September or at anytime (The Gods willing!) in the foreseeable future.
Thank you all for your generous support of TWV over the years!
YOUR Witchvox Staff
Wren Chirps In: PS: I am not really sure how to word this part, so please do not be offended by the awkwardness of the words:
If you DID send in a sponsorship donation in the last few days based upon this unauthorized email campaign and now feel that you were misled (even though it was not by TWV), contact us and we will reverse it. No guilt, no shame, no questions. Money is energy and should be freely and honestly exchanged. Even though this situation was not of our making, we feel that this offer of a refund/reversal is simply the right thing to do.

What a relief! Nice to know my favorite site is solvent! Um, can I borrow 20 bucks?

| This Is Why Witchvox Is So Wonderful | Jul 12th. at 11:11:40 pm EDT |

by aquilo (los angeles, ca, usa, earth, sol system, milky way, universe) - wc_xemail

I'd like to thank Wren, Fritz, Diotima and the entire WitchVox gang for being so open and honest about this wonderful site, its reasons for being and its operational practices. This is why WitchVox is such a great community resource--everyone involved cares, is truly committed and has a good heart. I am always happy to see how the WitchVox folks actually walk their motto: "Those who walk in love and truth shall grow in honor and strength." May i add that they also grow in beauty. We can all take a lesson from these wonderful people.
Blessings, -aquilo

| Last Year | Jul 12th. at 6:19:45 pm EDT |

by NightShade (SE WI) - wc_xemail

I remember last year's 'scare' was genuine and started sponsorship not too long after that. I wasn't exactly in the red, but not much would have made it that way, but no worries. I will continue my sponsorship when it ends late August.
WV helped me when I was new to the area and needed some spiritual buddies. WV keeps me up-to-date with religious and community news that's worth knowing. WV is a wonderful resource to many. How could I not sponsor it?
When I first found it, I was under the parental rule and fluffy wiccan. Now that I've grown up and became serious about religion, it continues to be a good source of info.
Keep it up!!!

Never saw this recent email thing... guess I got lucky, however...
I did send in my sponsorship last summer when the call came up. Best decision I ever made...
It looks as though next month I'm due to re-sponsor TWV, too. Wren and Fritz... you'll see it next month...

donation. This is a worth while site that deserves our support whether in monetary donations or just in good thoughts and wishes. This rumor was sent on several of the groups I am on, it was sent with the link to Witchvox, so it looked as if it was a valid post concerning Witchvox. But just as with emails concerning viruses it is best to go to the main source and find out the truth. This was a wakeup call for us that did need to update or add a sponsorship to our account. Blessings, Luna.

Well, it's been awhile since I sent in a donation, in fact, the idea has crossed my mind several times over the last month. The check will be in the mail, I promise!! Glad to hear the financial situation is going well -- but that shouldn't stop anyone who wants to give, having a bit of a reserve is the smart thing to do. I'm very grateful to all of you at the Vox -- you're my daily stop on the Web. And a blog from Wren! ( ** stops to squeal with delight**) Now that's something worth booting the old computer up for! May Brighid continue to bless your work with light and wisdom!!

Thank you Wren and Fritz for providing us with this sacred place.
I found you back in 1999-2000 shortly before I began serious spiritual studies and you and your writings and the wonderful resource that the Witches' Voice is, has been a blessing sent by the Goddess Herself to me.
I am proud to be a sponsor and am very glad to hear that all is well.
To all those who are considering sponsorship, please do so. You can feel good about yourself for being a part of keeping this incredible place going.
Blessed Be.

Oddly enough, I *didn't* hear this from anyone. Guess my sources were either not on the ball, or uber on the ball, eh? ;-)
I started supporting Witchvox (belatedly, I'll admit) a while back, and am so pleased to be able to do so. I consider it one of the more worthy things to do with what little money I'm able to give, and I recommend doing this to everyone who uses this site, inasmuch as you are able.
It's clear that Fritz and Wren are two of the most honorable people I've ever met, in or out of the Pagan community, and I'm pleased to help them out.
Praise and Thanks, you guys, for all you have done to bring us this site and keep it going!

| Well, Now.. | Jul 11th. at 12:11:10 pm EDT |

It seems that e-mail hoaxes of this variety are being widely distributed, not just "site might close" hoaxes either. I was trolling around on trendmicro's site the other day and discovered I had been "duped" by one of these hoaxes. Did you ever get an email from a close friend that was talking about how Swiffer WetJet was killing animals because it contains anti-freeze? It's a hoax folks. The URL for their hoax section is : [Web LINK]
I know that was a little off-topic. I am VERY glad that the VOX isn't closing, though I never recieved the email in question, and will continue to do my part as a sponsor . The only question that remains in my mind is "How will I find enlightenment on WitchVox today? in the form of an essay? A poem?" Many thanks to the "Vox Kids" for their dedication to excellence.
Gu robh beannachd nan diathan agus ar sinnsearan air WitchVox.

I was so happy to hear that witchvox was not closing down because I would be sad if you did I am constantly coming here and looking at the local stores part because they are constantly opening and closing that its hard to keep track. Like I told one of my egroups I will try to send a contribution of $20.00 or so around Christmas time just to make sure you don't because it would be a great loss to us all. BB, Pandora (Angie)

| I Missed | Jul 9th. at 9:42:18 pm EDT |

by Erihu (North Carolina) - wc_xemail

the request from last year. We had just moved not long before, and things were too unsettled to get online a lot. But I've since come to depend on Witchvox a tremendous amount. I got in my sponsorship as soon as I could afford it, and like so many others, feel that it is money well spent. Without this site, and the dedication of Wren & Co., I wouldn't have the many friends I'm proud to have now. We all met right here, and not a day goes by that I don't come back, for news, essays, poetry, the list goes on. Thank you for giving all of us this wonderful community.
Blessings, Erihu
