Silly Muggles, Wizardry's For Children

Author: Rob Jenkin Source: Gwinnett Daily Post (GA)

Title: SILLY MUGGLES, WIZARDRY'S FOR CHILDREN
I'd like to thank Laura Mallory for her courageous and self-effacing efforts to protect our children from the dangers of reading books. I mean, from the dangers of reading books like the Harry Potter series.
Mallory makes an excellent point, which is that the concept of the supernatural, of forces in this world beyond our full understanding, some of which are good and some of which are - dare I say it? - evil, is completely antithetical to Christian thought. Thank goodness that concept exists only in books, like "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" and Genesis.
The real reason I'm writing, though, is to encourage Mallory not to stop with the Potter books.
There are still shelves full of magical creatures to be dealt with in the name of Christianity.

Along with Tolkein and Lewis there are a couple other major threats to children's welfare when it comes to litereary works and other forms of media with one MAJOR threat in particular. I mean just look at the horrible threat from Disney! We have paganism and race mixing in Pocahontas! Talking animals, satanic magic and *gasp* SPECIES mixing in The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast! That horrid satan worshipping Angela Lansbury in Bedknobs and Broomsticks and don't even get me started on Mary Poppins! Just what exactly was in that spoonful of sugar I wonder? Oh the list of atrocities is too long and painful to continue with! I just wanted to warn everyone about the horrible threat from this evil entity that unashamedly markets thier filth to children. These signs of satan are everywhere! Open your eyes and beware!

One thing is certain. There will be a lot less wear and tear on the Dewey Decimal system if every imaginative book is removed from the shelves. As to the kids themselves, forcing kids to read certain books by eliminating others guarantees nothing. If they aren't reading the "approved" list already, why bother reading at all?

"Having struck a blow for right-thinking people everywhere by ridding us of that dastardly Potter and his meddling sidekicks - something even Lord Voldemort couldn't do - I hope she will see that her work has just begun."
Has that petition been successful? I thought the Literates were winning.
I hope that murderous defamatoire of Left Behind is next removed. I'd hate to see such a Socialist Butt teaching a twisted version of Christianity.

They should encourage Bible study. No, really, here me out. If these kids read the Bible instead of hearing the bull$%@# from their parents, they would realize how misconstrued many people interpret the Bible. So, teach the kids the REAL Bible, and when they're traumatized beyond belief, they definetly won't start saying the Bible is all love and peace and rainbows. Just a thought...

The article was obviously sarcastic and I got a real kick out of it. But I have to wonder if the last line about the Bible being taken out of the schools was part of the sarcasm or not.
So many people seem to think that since children aren't made to study the Bible in school, they have removed it from schools altogether.
As far as I know there are Bible's in the library for kids who want to check them out.
It seems to me that the old saying about repeating a lie often enough really does work. First it was just die hard conservative fundamentalists making the claim that the Bible had been taken out of schools but recently it seems even most normal Christians think it's true.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong but to my knowledge the Bible has not been banned from any school libraries.

I thought this article was a total hoot.... and it told the truth. Where is the cutoff point? Where do we finally say "stop" "no more" I read all the forementioned books as a kid, and I saw nothing wrong with them. I guess the fundies are going to read into them what they will,, but censorship is going to do no good at all. If the fundie parents don't want their childrend to read them, then that is their choice, and their loss. For ALL of those books were great literary works. Leave them for others to enjoy. If you want to read a REALLY scary book, full of war, greed, murder and RAPE, just read the bible. And they complain about Tolkin, Lewis & rowling???? PUH-LEEZE. Can we say reality check?
Love & wisdom to all
