Zimbabwe Outlaws Practice Of Witchcraft

Author: Lebo Nkatazo Source: New Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe)

Title: ZIMBABWE OUTLAWS PRACTICE OF WITCHCRAFT
Zimbabwe has outlawed the practise of witchcraft following a raft of amendments to legislation drawn up by the former colonial regime.
Until President Robert Mugabe assented to the amendments last week, Zimbabwe's Witchcraft Suppression Act, a holdover from the colonial era, made it illegal to call anyone a witch, meaning nearly all cases went unreported.
From July this year, witchcraft will be a criminal offence punishable by a fine or a five-year jail term, the country's Justice Minister Patrick Chinamasa said.
The new laws make it a criminal offence to hire a witch or assist in the commission of witchcraft, but also provides protection for people "groundlessly" accused of practicing witchcraft.

this is about persecuting 'witches'. The authorities don't seem to believe these 'witches' are harmful at all, in fact, they don't seem to take it seriously as any kind of real threat.... however.... superstitious people are killing those who they believe are practising witchcraft, so to try to prevent this mob rule, authorities have made PRACTISING witchcraft a crime... not being ACCUSED of witchcraft a crime.... they have to have evidence in the form of witchcraft paraphenalia etc to go along with the accusation before there will be charges. This will hopefully help to prevent superstitious 'witch' killings by having laws in place as a recourse against the actual practise of witchcraft. We may find this odd by comparison to our own laws, but it's not our place to say how they handle the problems that face them. If they feel this is the best solution to the problem then more power to them. Perhaps some day they will find a better solution that will allow any 'pagans' that live there to practise 'witchcraft', if that is their path, not that there are that many, as I'm not sure how widespread neo-paganism is in Africa.

Chrome, particularly that on your automobile. Other exports include cotton textiles, organic chemicals and lumber, but these are mostly exported to other African countries while USAians get ours from India, various Middle Eastern countries, and Canada, respectively.
Now you know what to boycott: chrome-trimmed cars.

... given the number of killings of 'witches' in this superstitious area it makes sense to enact laws to 'punish' these 'witches' rather than have mobs do it. Sounds like they are trying to find a way to provide an alternative 'punishment' to prevent vigilante justice.
