Who's Afraid Of Harry Potter?

Author: Ed Brock Source: The Henry Herald (GA)

Title: WHO'S AFRAID OF HARRY POTTER?
Unless you are “He Whose Name Must Not Be Spoken,” I don’t think you have anything to fear from Harry Potter.
And yet, there appears to be a large number of people who have this irrational fear of Potter or, more importantly, of witchcraft. I find this fear unfathomable.
Most recently it has come to the forefront in Gwinnett County, where Laura Mallory is trying to have the Potter books removed from the school library.
Now, Mrs. Mallory, if you ever read this I want you to understand that I’m sure you are a very nice person who is just trying to do what you think is right. But you are wrong, dear, in more than one way, just plain wrong.

Learning , practicing , riding the waves up and down , learning and practicing how to go with the flow of Nature , studying , reading , writing into all hours of the day and night , experiencing and walking a "Witch's life" .. is not easy. I have had to endure alot of things on my path (and still do) in order to claim myself a Witch ! And it ain't been easy. Yet according to the little girl and this Mrs. Mallory , we can become one overnight , simply by reading Harry Potter ! So lets spread the news to all our newbies. "Go buy these books and/or movies .. and you too .. can become a Witch ! Overnight." Why weren't things this easy when I decided I was going to follow the path of the Witch? Personally , I believe each of us are born a Witch. We are born with all the abilities , talents and powers to be as powerful as we wish. But it takes alot of practice and experience to actually claim to be one. And that is because some of us are born into hereditary lines and hence ; have those abilities honed at a very early age. Others of us have to be taught and/or have to learn how to use our talents and abilities , how to apply them in our lives in a useful and constructive manner or how to bring those talents and abilities to the forefront of our lives. But , most of society believes that its a simple and rather noncomplex thing to do. Why is that ? Why do they not understand that the path of the Witch is hard and sometimes painstaking ? Why do they not understand .. that it takes alot of studying , alot of perseverence , devotion , dedication and loyalty .?? Where does society get the idea that our path is so easy and that anyone can just pick up a book and find themselves becoming a Witch or better yet .. in the "clutches of Witchcraft ?" Hogwash. Hogwarts is nothing.
I am sorry , but I have no nice words to express about this whole ordeal with this Gwinnett woman. She is ignorant , stupid , silly , immature .. and most of all .... brainwashed ! This is a prime example of what they teach some of these folks about Witches and Pagans out there in the so called "church". Frankly , I am sick and tired of it all. I feel it is time that our communities just stop all of this "tolerance and understanding" for the *other guy* crap and start rallying and protesting in the streets , in front of schools and government office buildings... like the Justice department and the White House and anywhere else we might deem its needed !
I do believe that tolerance , patience and understanding are the keys to a successful relationship with those who do not believe as we do. But , that only applies when the other party is being the same way !! As long as we have people like this running rampant in our world , our communities and in society ... we will always have great difficulties and problems getting along with other spiritual/religious communities if we continue to be "tolerant and patient .. and not speak up".
When are we going to say enough is enough already ? When are we going to set things straight? When are we going to scream , yell , stomp our feet and tell the world (or communities and socieites) they are wrong ?
When are *we* going to "live our dream"?
Its time. Its time to stand up. Its time to do something. But one person cannot do it. It is going to take all of us. There are 70,000 people on this list. Imagine 70,000 Witches protesting in one place !! It certainly brings a smile to my face. :)
Anyone care to join ?

...there was a similar incident. In the year 1692 in the little town of Salem Village a few trouble little girls were trotted out to support false allegations of witchcraft.
I think we all know how that turned out.
Just an observation on how self important, misguided zealots tend to make the same mistakes over and over and over.

The teen they **used** to make their point before the school board, their poster child of choice, is one 15-year-old Jordan Fuchs, according to some articles.
This teen's mother, Stacy Thomas, states that her daughter's "demonic spiral" started around sixth grade.
So, years later, after disturbing changes which she allowed to remain "bewildering," according to articles, the child's mother then blames Harry Potter books.
… Pounce! An attention-seeking predatory missionary (not that all missionaries are like this, I know) joins forces with this mother.
Yes, Laura Mallory is a missionary who moved to Gwinnette County two years ago. [Web LINK]
With profoundly astute adults around her like that, people wonder why the child was angry and depressed. Seems so unlikely (sarcasm alert) .
It's mentally and otherwise problematic to split the world in two – into an “opposing forces dichotomy” that is milked until more parties boldly display and encourage their underlying mix of cognitive dissonance, mucked up logic, distancing, and incompetence -- the aftermath of which results in sacrificing, perverting, and straying from stated/original purpose, excellence, and less peculiarly motivated “warmth.”
Some parents and schools are joining forces to fail America, in God's name, and they conveniently don't know squat about common logic errors and fallacies. Nevertheless, they're for education! [Web LINK]

"Let’s set aside for a moment the entire concept of whether your Christian beliefs actually should be challenged by a children’s book. Let’s just focus on the fact that it isn’t good enough for you to say “I don’t like these books and my kids aren’t going to read them.”
Let's not ignore that everything you learn of your Religion, you learn in Kindergarten.
How many Scientists believe that Science involves the Shaping of Society? How many Paedagogues believe that Teaching is all about Baby Sitting? How many Clerics belive that Wizardry is all about Prestidigitation?
Magic doesn't involve much Swishing and Flicking, let alone the Latinoid Espressiosae, any more than Jesus is that Bloody Murderer depicted by that Left Behind Author, but many will grow up thinking that all Magic is Thaumaturgy, and all Christianity is the Grave.
Meanwhile, a desparate Mother is speaking from her Prejudice, but is to be commended for daring to speak publicly.

Thank you, Mr. Brock! In more ways than one. A fairer assessment could not be spoken. She is trying to impose her will on everyone, using her beliefs as an excuse. And trotting out the subsequent "example" is merely an old snake oil ploy to "Prove" a point. She may have actually felt the way she did, and believed she might have gotten something from the book that didn't turn out, but she was only one person-- with a problem that occurred long before she read Harry Potter. If the books were really that influential, hundreds, perhaps thousands would have come forth with problems. Actually, this ploy was used before, against Elvis Presley, Rock and Heavy Metal music, Dungeons and Dragons, Movies of one kind or another And just about any other popular thing that comes to mind. As long as there is someone against it, there will always be this controversy. I even feel that an improperly played Tuba would be able to incite someone to violence, so all Tubas should be eliminated from school classrooms.
