30-Country Poll Finds Rising Concern Over Global Warming

Author: Insurance Journal Source: Insurance Journal

Title: 30-COUNTRY POLL FINDS RISING CONCERN OVER GLOBAL WARMING
A 30-country poll finds large majorities in all countries believe climate change is a serious problem. No country has more than one in five saying it is not a serious problem.
The poll of 33,237 people from all major regions of the world was conducted by GlobeScan Inc. between October 2005 and January 2006, analyzed in conjunction with WorldPublicOpinion.org. The margin of error per country was plus or minus 3 percent.
Across all countries, on average 90 percent say that "climate change or global warming, due to the greenhouse effect" is a serious problem.

Siara (Annapolis, Maryland) - Email Me

I'm surprised that anyone could say they don't see evidence of global warming, or at least excessive pollution.
It might be hard for young people to see because they don't have a "thirty years ago" state to compare things to. Also, I guess if someone's moved every few years, the changes wouldn't be apparent.
But for anyone who's lived in the northeastern USA for more than thirty years.... Haven't you noticed that the migration patterns of the birds have changed? Haven't you noticed that the vegetation's different? Haven't you noticed that weather patterns have changed? Look in your family album at those old pictures of you making a snowman. The snow was DEEP. Do you remember summer days from your childhood when the radio warned you not to play outside because the air quality was too dangerous?
If personal experience doesn't suffice, there are all those "Place X in 1960"/"Place X in 2000" photos (like the recent one in Time magazine of the polar bear who's run out of ice) .
There's a lot of false science floating around out there, but global warming isn't political.

such as the poster (s) below who used the phrase, "junk science" and infer that scientists are being bullied if they don't believe in global warming (its actually the other way around, just talk to some of our friends at NOAA) , please go to the Union of Concerned Scientists and read thier statements on the world scientific communtity's concensus on global warming and its consequences for human kind within our lifetimes.

Opus the Poet (Garland, Texas) - Email Me - Web

I ride my bicycle almost everywhere within about 90 miles, and sometimes beyond if I have the time. For short trips in heavy traffic I take the bus, not because it's faster (it isn't) but because the bus is less likely to get hit than my bike. And the 2 times I was on a bus that did get hit I never even got my hair mussed, a huge difference from when I got hit riding my bicycle and had to spend 13 days in the hospital, and over 4 years recovering so far. Long trips I sometimes use a motor vehicle, but I try very hard to make that as seldom as possible.

Considering how much this has been played up, I'd be suprised if people weren't worried.
That doesn't mean that "global warming" is anything more than normal climate variations though.
If the science is sound, then it can withstand criticism.
WITHOUT attempts to discredit those scientists who don't toe the line.

Actions are being taken, especially in Europe. Germany and Sweden are leading the way in greenhouse gas emission reduction. In the U.S., not waiting for the Federal government to provide leadership and real initiative, state's, local governments and community organizations are doing radical things like signing on to the Kyoto Agreement in their own names, passing local legislations that promote meaningful reductions of greenhouse gases and more.
For a detailed plan on how to address this very present and serious danger to the ecology of the earth and life as we know it read Lester Brown's "Plan B". goto: [Web LINK] .

Morning Light (Fairplay, Colorado) - Email Me

Well, most people have to be hit over the head before they realize what is in front of them. The data has been there for decades, but until the climate has changed, no one will take notice.
Global warming is going to be a catastrophe on many fronts: 1. It is going to cost everyone a lot of money. Money that many of us can't afford. Just think of being poorer for the future. a) Everything will cost more b) We will have to put a lot of money into just saving people from the environment. c) Homes will have to be built to higher codes d) Infrastructure repairs will take a lot of money, both public and private. e) Places where we grow food will change, and cost more. 2. It is going to take a lot, and I mean a lot of resources, both natural and manmade to help people survive a climate change. 3. Places in the world where people made a marginal living will become uninhabitable. 4. Many people will die. 5. The change in how we use our resources will drastically change our lifestyles and standard of living.
These are the easy changes. Wars usually occur when people need other peoples resources.
Ok, that is the doom and gloom. The positives of course is that we will unite and fight this fight together hand in hand into the bright future and live in Star Trek Land.........Hazzah!!!
The choice is ours of course. So, when the worlds in danger, "who ya gonna call". Bush???
