Church Holds Its First Winter Solstice Service

Author: Andrew Shaw   Source: Greenwich Time (CT)

Title: CHURCH HOLDS ITS FIRST WINTER SOLSTICE SERVICE

Winter officially arrived at 7:22 p.m. last night. To mark the longest and darkest day of the year, Second Congregational held a service of Scripture reading, carol singing and labyrinth walking on its property at the Greenwich Labyrinth for Peace and Healing.

[Rev. Robert] Naylor said that for Christians, the winter solstice is a sign that the days will be getting lighter and longer. The symbolism is combined with Christ's birth to "show the coming of light through Christ," he said. The event also was used as a stress reliever, he said.

For Wiccans, the winter solstice provides a great source of energy as they worship the power of darkness, according to Greenwich Psychic owner Janet Lee, who practices white magic witchcraft. Lee says she does not personally use the negative energy associated with Wiccan black magic but she often interacts with the witches.

Lee said those witches who use positive energy avoid working on the day of the winter solstice to avoid crossing paths with the work of those using negative energy.

Blatant, typical, fundaMENTAList sack of lying stench puke pablum.

Hold Wicca's message of love and universal acceptance up against the exclusionary, elitist and openly hateful doctrine of christianity THEN talk to me about darkness.

Ignorant twit.

why the fundievangelicals have such a problem with Harry Potter. They have no concept of the difference
between fact and fiction or the relationship between
them and reality.

This article is a prime example of the xian practice
of taking what you want from different sources and
making it say what you want. The sum total is that
anyone who has "seen the light" clearly sees the
ignorance of the propagator.

This Just Proves... Dec 22nd. at 8:14:20 pm EST

that this guy doesn't know diddly about Wicca.... we wiccans DO NOT worship the power of darkness. I for one don't. When I summon, I summon wisdom and light to guide me in whatever situation I heed help with. It's good that they held a Yule / Solstice celebration, but it has NOTHING to do with the xtian "jesus" - it is calling back Father Sun and longer, warmer days. He should get the facts straight....

Love & blessed Yule

Energy Is Energy... Dec 22nd. at 2:02:09 pm EST

That is like saying the North pole is good and the South pole is evil, or that light is good while the absence of light is not. While there are a number of religions that have a polarity- good vs. evil, Wicca is not one of them.

I talked to the reporter today (Friday afternoon) . He was gracious and friendly. He didn't know what a lunatic the person he had quoted was. He suggested that people mail or email letters to the editor, since it will be difficult to get a correction posted by the paper.

As always when doing public outreach, be polite and friendly. Correct the errors, don't attack the editors or the writer. Remember, the briefer you are, the more likely it is that your letter will see print.

Happy Hannakwayulmas!
Isaac

We must nip this negative Wiccan stereotype in the bud, and I believe this commentary helped do just that. You can view it here:

I Think Albert Einstein Said This. Dec 22nd. at 11:57:03 am EST

Libertarian (Langley, Washington) - Email Me - Web

"There is no such thing as darkness, only the absence of light. No such thing as cold, only the absence of heat. No such as evil, only the absence of good." I wouldn't call myself a true believer but if Einstein said it, it's probably true. I think that the witch quoted needs to continue her studies.

Happy Yule

Umm......Wiccan Dark Magic, Really!? Dec 22nd. at 11:04:05 am EST

Lasombra (Columbus, Ohio) - Email Me

I was not originally offended by the article until the middle. It was not shocking to for christians to hijack the Winter Solstice...they've been hijacking things all the while.
I was however, offended by the black/white paradox crap that was included. Yule/Winter solstice has always been a time of hope and looking forward to the light (for me at least) .
The darkness/light has nothing to do with evil/good...it is about introspection/action.

Now the wiccan in the article may not deserve to be attacked since journalist are know to cut and paste things to fit their bias. Clearly Wiccans/pagans are being painted with a negitive light in this article.
