Update: Witch Burned Down

Author: CBS 3 Source: CBS 3 (MA)

Title: FOLLOW UP: WITCH BURNED DOWN
The witch hanging from a noose outside a home on East Street in Chicopee has been burned at the stake.
Neighbors say when they went to bed last night, the witch was intact, but this morning, it was found burned on the ground. The halloween decoration stirred controversy when a group claiming witchcraft as their religion protested outside the home. But neighbors say whoever set fire to the witch went too far.

OK. This is America.
An individual can decorate their yard any way they want to for any given holiday.
And, I suppose, the First Amendment extends to cover the right of those who don't like it to protest.
I'll concede that point.
Destruction of property is, however, stupid. I will advance no theories as to 'whodunit.' No matter who inflamed the situation, it was blatantly stupid.
One media circus later, as we take down the tents and clean up the elephant dung...
...what has been accomplished??

The residence that put up this decoration didn't want anymore attention than anyone else on the street at Halloween. A "hanged effigy" had been going up on that gallows every year for the last four. Those who think this was all some sort of elaborate plan to "get" Pagans are insane. That would certainly be a patient crazy Christian, baiting a trap for four years just waiting for it to spring. Come on, how crazy are we?
Likewise, those claiming the guy burned his own decoration are twisted and desperate to make anyone other than a Pagan look bad. The simple truth is, as a few others have stated:
MOST LIKELY CULPRITS (In Order of Likelyhood) :
1. Teens Being Vandals 2. Self-Righteous Pagans 3. Homeowner
Will we ever no? It is unlikely unless the police had a camera on that street or the culprit was an utter idiot. All of that is beside the point. This was an idiotic protest from the start to finish. It brought no good PR to us whatsoever. Had we, under the Pagan umbrella, not whined about it, the decoration would have been one in millions and given no more thought one way or the other than any other ghoulish Halloween display. This whole thing is as moronic as the scarecrow mentioned in the other article.
How about next Halloween we keep it in our pants and let people enjoy the holiday however the hell they want? How about we start treating the free speech of non-Pagans the same as we do our own? That way, when next Halloween rolls around, it will only be idiots like the Scarecrow-man who look stupid. Oddly enough, if the scarecrow were to burn down, I"ve no doubt that people here would immediately assume it was the complainer and NOT teens. We are truly pathetic sometimes.

This was there plan in the beginning. First he did something to provoke the pagans. Then he was toxic to lynch. Then the pagan protesters came. Just as he planned. Then the pagans obeyed the all the laws. Halloween came and went. The pagans obeyed the all the laws. This wasn’t suppose to happen. The godless pagans were suppose to break all the laws. Xians never obey the laws when they protest. No one dose. How can pagans be better than everyone else. His plan was ruin. So at the last moment, he came up with burning his own witch. Frame the pagans. Arson!

If you think about it,really. The people who put up the "decoration" wanted attention, they got it.To suspect the protesters of burning it is insane. It would have made more sense to cut it down, not burn it.I think the owners of the display wanted more attention.I guess they felt they hadn't used up their 15 minutes quite yet.

from its very beginning until this firey end has been a complete and utter waste of electrons. Compare this story to the one about the fundy protesting the "crucified" sacrecrow and tell me you honestly see any real difference whatsoever. I certainly don't. What I see are thin-skinned whiners vying for attention.

Is someone claiming some Pagans ....burned a witch in effigy, in order to say witches shouldn't be hung in effigy?
I tend to doubt it.

These are the same type of morons who'd burn a cross on the lawn of a black family or paint a swastika on the home of a Jewish family. Too bad ignorance isn't a crime.

This guy is not out of the clear yet. He could have burnt his own witch just to frame the protesters. Anyway if he ask for a investigation , he would be under investigation too. Hanging and burning a representation of a presidential candidate ( Hillary) is a crime that should be investigated by the Secret Service. They have probable cause to investigate everyone now. I don’t approve of protest. Its just a legalize riot that most likely will commit crimes. And they get in the way of brave people who will attempt a rescue or stop a real danger.

This situation has BAD written all over it. I thought the protesters were taking things a little too seriously, but beyond that I was hoping the whole story would just go away.
Now we got this.
Whomever burned down the witch is an idiot. But what is worse is not the act itself but the reaction from the local populace. While there is no evidence that it was a pagan that burned down the witch we can all guess whose gonna become the favored scapegoat. Even though it is just as likely that someone burned the doll to send a message to the "uppity witches" as it is that a witch burned it in protest. I also noticed that the article says the local witches "claim witchcraft is their religion". A little less than favorable way to phrase it, don't ya agree?
And if that doesn't get you at least a little worried, the last quote of the article should. Even if it is only angry bluster.
"One neighbor says he wants to put up four more witches for next year's Halloween season."
Awesome...

When it was on a noose, it was disturbing, depending on who's side you looked at.
BURNING IT?!? That is disgusting, and should be labeled a hate crime.
People irritate me.
