Jesus Party Rips "Harry Potter" On Eve Of New Movie

Author: Andie Hannon Source: Sun Journal (ME)

Title: JESUS PARTY RIPS "HARRY POTTER" ON EVE OF NEW MOVIE
Millions worldwide were lining up for their chance to catch a midnight showing of the summer's most anticipated blockbuster, "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince."
Meanwhile, a small crowd gathered in Lewiston to discuss witchcraft influences and overtones of the teen wizard series.
Watch out, Harry Potter fans — the Rev. Doug Taylor and his Jesus Party are battling for your souls.
"There is a battle raging for the minds of our children, and it's a moral battle," said Taylor, founder of the local ministry that aims to reach out to area youth. "J.K. Rowling has truly bridged the gap between magical make-believe and paganism." Rowling is the author of the seven "Harry Potter" novels.

This is the same obnoxious twit who defended the old lady who stole the library book from the Lewiston library's children's/adolescent's section, and raised a big fuss about the fine about a year back (which was posted here on Witch VOX at the time) .
I don't believe that the local mainstream Christians hereabouts love him any more than the growing Muslim population (mostly Somali, it's own source of national news) or the rest of the population.

We need to clean out the woodwork more often. Too much that is ridiculous has been coming out of it lately. This is just another case in point. Back in the day we used to call them "jesus freaks"-- with good reason. Because they were.

.....the louder they are, the more we drown them out, the tighter their grip, the easier we slip through their fingers. These wingnuts bore me. They're not even entertaining anymore. Just annoying.

One of the commenters to this original article may have hit on an important aspect of far more bible thumpers and jeezus juicers than merely this nutcase:
"I went to school with this Tool. He was an alocholic, druggie and had been around the block more times then the mail man. Yeah back in the day it wasnt Jesus Party for Doug it was KEG party for him.!!"
In my experience dealing with evangelical broadcasters, about a third of the individuals so afflicted aren't entirely choosing to practice any particular religion. Instead, they're using zealotry as a mechanism to induce neuroendocrine responses of adequate intensity to substitute a less personally harmful substance abuse pattern for more self destructive former such patterns. The level of obsessive-compulsive intensity manifested is a sign of the degree of psychiatric illness being so managed, and not a reflection on any devout religious sincerity.
Which is more dangerous in society, the drunk on booze, or the drunk on religiosity?
In the opposite lane on the highway, or in many hazardous occupations, the bible drunkard, is less unsafe to be near.
In most other cases, perhaps the ETOH addict is the better neighbor. As a war criminal Chimp in Chief, GWB was far more dangerous, than had he died driving drunk or OD'ing on cocktails of beer and coke and other stuff in his adventures while AWOL from TANG. When lots of jeezus juicers gang up and manage to pass unConstitutional laws that direct cops as their mercenary thugs to conspire to violate civil rights of others, subverting police into armed criminal gangs, a drunk who may kill himself or one carload of victims is less hazardous.
It's not discussed widely outside a very few psych studies, but the impact on kids of PKS (preacher's kid syndrome) or equivalent pseudo-religious indoctrination and abuse is very similar in effects on the kids as ACOA inducing patterns of drunkard parents. At least there's readily available treatment for one of those forms of substance abuse. Perhaps it's overdue for law and medicine to widely recognize the jeezus juicer addiction, and treat it as the both mental illness and the cause of child abuse and civil rights oppression conspiracies that it is.

These "protest" demonstrations have practically become a tradition when an HP book or move is released...kinda like the running of the bulls in Pampolma, the burning of the Giant at the end of Burning Man or, more appropriately, watching lemmings' yearly mass migrations during mating season. So my fellow Neo-Pagans, lets watch these lemmings make fools of themselves and then go enjoy the movie.

You know there is a word for those who can't differentiate between a fantasy and reality... Insane.
Of course if you follow made up religion instead of the teacher it was named after, you already have one strike against you.

Mercy is a Mystery, and difficult to accept but, to each his own.
"Taylor agreed and pointed out that the schools would never teach the same story if it were about a bunch of Christians going to Bible school and learning to spread God's word. He said that even bookstores are selling books, wand kits and other novelty items aimed at drawing young people to the occult, thanks to "Harry Potter" mania. "
Actually, I would like those who've been taught of Helen Keller and Johnny Appleseed, to read up on the spirituality of those saints, and then rewatch Kingdom Hospital; an Aardvark will explain. I think the Bible has been legalized as Literature, but the schools still have to have a care who they allow to mention it.
"In keeping with his tradition, Taylor opened the evening by tearing the pages from a hard-covered copy of a "Harry Potter" book"
"Harry Potter: Witchcraft Repackaged — Making Evil Look Innocent,"
Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition, to ever get anything right.
Hey, if they want to have a Jesus Party, could I bring My Deathly Hallows?

Here we go again. The McGee/ Matrisciana Xians popping up and "coincidentally" are selling their crappy " Witchcraft Repackaged" DVD at the same time the new Harry Potter movie is released.
Wanna bet they had a seller display table at the " demonstration"?
And that idiot Rev. Taylor ripping up a hardcover Potter book saying he's doing this because no one else is doing it. Well gee wonder WHY?
Let's see, what could be the reasons why these folks are not widely applauded?
Because they are intolerant. Destroying a book is too much like book burning They are clearly opportunists. The name " Jesus Party" is a wee bit arrogant. Most people see no problem with Harry Potter and know the " witchcraft" in the books is fiction not actual Wicca or the Craft. They are killjoys. By doing their demonstrations, press meetings or whatever, they show themselves to be whacked out and discredit their religion-based claims as clearly equal parts ignorance and intolerance. They're nut jobs.
It's very simple, if you don' t like Harry Potter DON"T watch it or read it.
You know what would be funny? If some theater goers went dressed as Jesus Christ.

Witchcraft isn't a religion.
Harry Potter isn't taught in school. (and I wonder how they would justify making it into a class!)
Baaaaaa...
*sigh*
muggles...
Most people are sane enough to know the difference between reality and fiction, so I'm not worried about the book. Besides, I did the same thing to the New Testament once & the blind menace didn't go away.
Harry is safe. You cant keep a good man down!

Wicca has been growing for more than fifty years. A press release to this idea went out as well this today.
