Whitestone Residents Question Council Candidate's Religious Rituals

Author: Erica Ferrari Source: NY1

Title: WHITESTONE RESIDENTS QUESTION COUNCIL CANDIDATE'S RELIGIOUS RITUALS
A group of Whitestone residents gathered in protest Sunday against the Republican candidate for City Council District 19 in Queens.
The group spoke out against what they call his strange religious beliefs.
"Recent articles in the Village Voice and New York Post [say] that Dan Halloran is the leader of a neo-pagan religion who calls this community his Reich, who routinely practices animal blood sacrifice, and who has support from some of the worst hate groups in our country today,” said activist Michael Sais as to why he was protesting the candidate.
Sais is among some accusing Halloran of anti-Semitism-spreading and hate-killing animals. They say Halloran is unfit to serve them.

I think he's the only, and perhaps the first, pagan member of the City Council. He is unique in other ways as well.
He is a Republican! One of the few on the Council.
And, he is, like myself, a member of the National Rifle Association.
Go Dan!

I've been noticing something these days and it's getting on my nerves. Anti-semetic? Give me a break. Whenever I listen to talk radio I am constantly having isreal and jewish issues shoved down my throat during the commercial breaks. I'm sick of it. I don't care about Isreal. I'm an American. It's like they believe the whole world owes them or something. Let's face it, political correctness is nothing more than reverse bigotry these days. I've lost track the number of times people have pulled the halocaust card on me and those I know whenever jewish issues come up. Well the burning times was a holocaust before the holocaust.
This Michael Sais guy is a hate-mongering, anti-Pagan bigot!
What do you think of them apples?

It makes me laugh everytime I hear Christians accusing other's of being intolerant of other religions.
A Pagan that is anti-Semitic? Seriously? What about them that are anti-everything? It's not like they allow everybody else worship the divine everyway they choose to without preaching them their "right way"!
Ok, maybe his comment about kosher was unsuccessful, but I have a feeling that either it came out the wrong way, or - that is very propable - it was written down the "wrong way". Never the less I don't see anything anti-Semitic in that comment.
And as said before: don't like him? Don't vote him. Nobody imposed him on you. It is your choice to have him as a Mayor, or not.

What is wrong with the term reich? All it means is a territory of a German empire or its government. Granted it isn't often linked with happy good times, but really. Try using a dictionary before you protest a word.
Gute Nacht all!

"They say Halloran is unfit to serve them."
Then don't vote for him. Simple as that. He can still run.

Many Heathens, Recons and other Pagan groups who do perform ritual animal sacrifices often compare them to the ritualized slaughter of Kosher (and Halal) livestock. Somehow this is being viewed as anti-Semitic:
"Though he once wrote on his PaganSpace webpage that "Theodism regularly practices blood sacrifice," Halloran told the paper that the ritual is similar to Jewish dietary laws. That riled up Kim supporters. "By comparing animal blood sacrifices with the Jewish dietary laws of keeping kosher, it's no wonder that Dan Halloran's religion is supported by neo-Nazis and white supremacists," Michael Dovid Sais, a Jewish Kim backer told the Daily News...."
So if white supremacists enjoy lucky charms, should we label it a cereal for racists as well?

How did I know this was going to happen?
Kim's smear campaign sounds like something out of a Chick Tract, but the people, sadly, are probably gullible enough to believe it. Since Heathenry hasn't gotten a lot of exposure in--well, anywhere in the US, to be honest--a lot of people who weren't already in the know are going to believe Kim's lies about an otherwise good candidate for office.

with the previous comment. There wasn't much detail outside of hearsay. Which I suppose is to be expected of political campaigns. In any case, the community still has the vote.

This article really should have maybe done a little looking into any notions of anti-semitism and the like rather than just taking it seemingly at face value.

Although brief it caught the glimpse of a sign from one of the demonstrators.
It quoted the constitution . No religious test for office.
Enough said.

If the protestors are spelling Halloran's name correctly, Kim has grounds for complaint.
Hedonism?

I'm worried about Ruben Diaz being an ultrafundie preacher but you don't see me protesting his campaign. I'm simply not voting for the obnoxious idiot. If Queens residents are THAT worried about Halloran's religious beliefs and if they would affect his job, WHY DON'T THEY F**KING ASK HIM ABOUT THEM?!?!?
