 More: Google Sued For Sexual, Religious Discrimination Author: Thomas Claburn Source: InformationWeek Title: GOOGLE SUED FOR SEXUAL, RELIGIOUS DISCRIMINATION Google, an organization that received top marks in 2009 for respecting lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender rights in the Human Rights Campaign's Corporate Equality Index, is being sued by James Bara, a Georgia-based former employee for sexual and religious discrimination in violation of the Civil Rights Act. In his court filing, Bara, a practicing Wiccan, claims that a manager in Google's Atlanta office, Pam Sohn, made numerous jokes about the sexual orientation of a female transgendered employee who joined the company in July 2008. | |

Aishia (Atlanta, Georgia) - Email Me There are inaccuracies in that.. considering I know the parties. Ash, has been with the company for about 4 or 5 years now. Yes the brief was misleading in phrasing, but it did not mean that she had just joined the company, it meant when she literally got to work on a given day. And I can safely say this since I've known her personally since 2000. Bara.. well, I will leave it at there's a lot that could be said about inaccuracies in what he had to say. |

Naia (Nicosia, Cyprus) - Email Me If you read the other article about the same story, Wiccan Employee Files Sexual And Religious Discrimination Lawsuit Against Google, read the comments. No wonder there was at least one person in Google's employees that made a Wiccan feel "uncomfortable" . The comments there are spanning from stupid, ignorant to total disrespect. Even if you don't believe a religion exists, respect the other's choice of believing so. It's not like you are paying taxes for that! |

Maeven (Los Angeles, California) - Email Me It was my understanding that the Chinese government was going to refuse to allow Google in their country if they didn't delete out news of Chinese government suppression. I believe Google complied only to receive access to the country. Is this right? |

Draken (Bronx, New York) - Email Me - Web Not surprising, given Google's repeated violation of its "don't be evil" policy. Two important examples: 1) Google's self-censorship of its Chinese page, removing all references to the Tiananmen Square massacre and its routine persecution of Tibetan monks and the Falun Gong. 2) This hits me indirectly. I have the T-Mobile G1 (which I'm posting from right now) running Google's Android 1.6 "Donut" OS, and it has "superuser" access (anyone who knows Linux knows what this is) . Recently, a hacker known as Cyanogen was told to stop using Google's closed-source apps in his builds. We were all asking "WHY? His builds only work on phones loaded with Android in the first place!" A half-arsed excuse later and Google STILL didn't explain itself. I wonder what the spin from Googleplex will be about this one... |
