Vampire Clubs, Covens And Lairs Spring Up

Author: news.com.au Source: news.com.au

Title: VAMPIRE CLUBS, COVENS AND LAIRS SPRING UP
Vampire clubs, covens and lairs have sprung up across Australia in the wake of the Twilight craze.
Even individuals claiming to be real blood-drinkers have emerged within these groups.
Stephanie Meyer's Twilight saga, hit TV show True Blood, and The Vampire Diaries have taken hold of popular culture, reviving interest in the age-old legend of immortal blood-suckers, The Sunday Telegraph reports.
Although many teenagers and their mums enjoy the Twilight movie for heart-throb Robert Pattinson, there are some who consider themselves real-life versions of his character, Edward Cullen.
A plethora of vampire groups have emerged online where people with gothic interests can arrange to get together in the real world.

I have a bit of a problem with this. While playing fantasy vampire dress-up can be a fun way to blow off steam after an aggravating day in the real world, there are some seriously mentally disturbed individuals who live this lifestyle and victimize others. They have completely deluded themselves they are actual vampires, literally drink blood and engage in truly psychotic behavior. Inevitably, pagans get tangled up in this mess. There is nothing normal about drinking human (or animal) blood. There is nothing normal about stalking people and hurting them because some nutbag believes he/she is a vampire and must feed off humans to survive. It's scary how some impressionable young people get so wrapped up in this that they start to convince themselves they are vampires. There may be people who have a 'vampiric' lifestyle; as in the fact that they may dress and look a certain way, and have a deep interest in the world of vampires, but they also can separate fantasy from reality. They may be a touch eccentric, but don't go so far as to completely lose their sense of identity.

":Perhaps it's just a case of the loonies identifying themselves out and separate from the "normal" population. So many people wishing that there were something "special" about themselves, to make them feel they are better (or sometimes "far, far worse") than everybody else."
People say the exact same thing about pagans and witches, too. Watch where you throw those darts!

And for anyone who claims that vampire gatherings are full of "nutjobs and wannabes," keep in mind that many xians say the same about Pagans. Read up on Michelle Belanger's "Psychic Vampire Codex" for more details.

Umm...this has been going on since the early-mid 90s. Why do you think NYC's Court of Lazarus has been going on since 2002?
