Faith Groups To Be Key Policy Advisers

Author: Jonathan Wynne-Jones   Source: The Telegraph (UK)

Title: FAITH GROUPS TO BE KEY POLICY ADVISERS

John Denham, the communities secretary, said the values of Christians, Muslims and other religions were essential in building a "progressive society".

He attacked secularists who have called for religion to be kept out of public life.

Mr Denham revealed that a new panel of religious experts has been set up to advise the Government on making public policy decisions.

The move has been criticised by secularists who warned that it represented a worrying development.

Doesn't England Nov 15th. at 6:03:08 am EST

have a state church anyway (The Church of England) ? Didn't England have numerous civil conflicts revolving around which religions get access to power? Didn't our American forebears end up here in part because the English were sure that religion had to play a role in state power, so that arguments over religious doctrine became critical?

Of course, we're getting the same "faith-based" nonsense from people in our government, with "people of faith" defined almost entirely as believers in the Abrahamic religions. The implication is that those people are somehow morally superior to everyone else.

That I'm unwell, getting old and will die before I see what happens to a world that is seemingly going in this Faith Based direction. I have no offspring, either. I'll be at peace in the grave.

We have already seen just how progressive that "faith" actually is, as it was Reason- and not any belief in gods that moved us forward into anything truly progressive. Faith, especially the mainline big Three ones have done more to hinder than to help anyone unless there was a direct benefit to them, nor have they proved any real amiability toward anyone of differing faiths-or even toward differing sects of their own religions unless pushed to it.
While I understand that faith is important to many, I do believe that governmental buildings are not suitable churches-and those who insist on public prayer sessions should go to the pulpits-not the halls of our public buildings.
Like the poster before me, I too believe that we are entering a dark age. It's just a matter of time, I suppose.

I told folks, like a Cassandra warning in the midst of disbelief, that we were entering the next dark age. Well, welcome to its beginning steps. It's not government only, so I don't want to hear about the present administration, especially since the last one was Religion R'Us.
I mean that when I talk to anybody, and I hear my own kids, we are shifting to a very violent and unbending era. My kids, who are now in their late 30's to 40's, actually think that the times were just too loose and need reining in.
I also have seen the demise just about, of the balanced, middle of the road religions. Now the big thing coming out of people is that if it's not THEIR religion, you're going to hell.
Ah, well, we come out of the closet, only to make it back in just ahead of the flying rocks, I fear. I hope I don't live to see it, but many here will. Bless their hearts.
