The DIY Spiritual Practice

Author: Doug Muder Source: UU World Magazine (uuworld.org)

Title: THE DIY SPIRITUAL PRACTICE
I often envy people who practice a spiritual discipline. It almost doesn't matter what they do. Zen, maybe, or yoga. Shamanic drumming. Sufi dancing. Kaballah. Ceremonial magick. Pagan witchcraft. Or even something as mainstream as regularly praying to God.
Whatever it is, it has a name and thousands, maybe millions, of fellow practitioners around the world. There's a shelf for it at Barnes and Noble and cool terminology like chi or karma or agape. Probably there's a saint or prophet or some other towering figure who exemplifies it, and maybe even some celebrity followers who get the whole thing written up in People.
I don't have any of that.
It's not that I don't have a discipline. I do, but it's like so much of what Unitarian Universalists do—my wife Deb and I have cobbled it together for ourselves over a couple of decades. I'd be amazed if we aren't the only people who practice it.

Ahr-Ohn (Bridgeport, Connecticut) - Email Me

"More specifically, we set aside some time about once a week (more often when life is getting hairy) to tell our common story backwards. We start with what is happening right now (“We're talking to each other.”) and move backwards through our days until we get to our previous backwards-narrating conversation. ("Before that, we were microwaving leftovers. Before that, you were answering email and I was in the shower.") "
He should read more Robin Hobb, if he doesn't have a term for "Forgiving the Week."
The best path, is to help others, that you can see what works, until you can see why, and don't introvert yourself. You're perfect, and can reflect on this, but Graphite is the brightest of Gems, being the only form of Diamond to dazzle itself. To share in Remembrancing the Week, would be a mutual healling, and a mind of the previous years and decades, for that week, would also be good.
He seems to have a plan.
