Irish Catholic Church Covered Up Child Abuse, Report Says

Author: CNN Source: CNN

Title: IRISH CATHOLIC CHURCH COVERED UP CHILD ABUSE, REPORT SAYS
The Archdiocese of Dublin and other Catholic Church authorities in Ireland covered up clerical child abuse until the mid-1990s, according to a government-commissioned report released Thursday.
The Dublin Archdiocese Commission of Investigation's 720-page report said that it has "no doubt that clerical child sexual abuse was covered up" from January 1975 to May 2004, the time covered by the report.
"The Dublin Archdiocese's pre-occupations in dealing with cases of child sexual abuse, at least until the mid 1990s, were the maintenance of secrecy, the avoidance of scandal, the protection of the reputation of the Church, and the preservation of its assets," the report said.
"The welfare of children, which should have been the first priority, was not even a factor to be considered in the early stages," it said.

The photos of the report featured in this article suggest the report may go beyond simple investigation, and tweak the Vatican types a bit. To use Orange cover jackets leaves me wondering if the report might have been used for political and cultural purposes to rub the Catholics' noses in long standing feuds with Irish Protestants, beyond or to bias any other issues presented.
Pretty sad, isn't it, that no one here on WV finds it surprising or shocking that a church organization or its leaders would perpetrate the ongoing patterns of crimes reported, or engage in criminal conspiracies to mask them? How quickly can the Vatican Empire, complete with UN status as a small nation, be assisted to die off? Perhaps some of its assets could transfer to nonprofit educational or historic foundations, as museums to dark sides of human history?

Not worse, since I cannot think of any worse crime, but the Catholic Church is responsible for more kinds of abuse than that. Very little concern was ever shown for the children left in their care.
As for Confession... I was taught that if you confessed, did your penance and received absolution, with the intent of committing the sin again, that this was a 'false act of contrition', the absolution was invalid, and a second sin had been committed.
This was apparently the rule for the laity only.

I can understand the religion's reluctance to air the laundry, but the magic of Confession rather depends on the magic of Confession, and the entire religion is indicted by its avoidance of Indictment.
"However, it said McNamara, Ryan and McQuaid had information on complaints against at least 17 priests when the Archdiocese took out insurance in 1987 to cover future compensation claims and lawsuits related to sexual abuse allegations."
Nominally, they could have taken out such insurance, persuant to crimes in other archdiocese, as in America but, if they failed to disclose knowledge of potential claims, in their jurisdiction, when purchasing that insurance, Fraud has no Statute of Limitations.
In this country, evidence of three felonies would invoke RICO, and every dollar paid by the insurance company would have taken three from the diocese, likely leaving the Insurance Industry in owndership of the entire structure. Imagine, going to Confession, before an Insurance Agent.

...All one of the Catholic faith (and some other Xtian faiths) have to do is confess, do penance and then they are forgiven... absolved of any and all crimes, sins and evil of all sorts. A total and complete lack of personal responsibility.
Lets not forget the REAL purpose of the Xtian church. That of a POLITICAL TOOL for controlling the population. Nothing more. Never was, never will be anything else.
All the Catholic Church cares about is it's own power, wealth, dominance and control. Basically it's evil at it's core, and will never be anything but evil.
When a group of people spend the majority of their time looking for the evil outside of themselves, the evil on the inside of them consumes them and they become the very evil they are looking for.

why would anyone believe that The Irish branch of the catholic church was any different that any other branch of this church? These stories abound worldwide.
The problem has nothing to do with the Nation where the offence occured but with the organization involved.

Many are no better than those who start up those christian style cults that abuse and marry children and the women amongst them against their will, using them as mere chattel, until they get caught. The only difference was their own heirarchy grew and learned how to cover up many truths and to silence many victims who would either speak out against them-or reveal something that would refute many of their teachings, simply because of both the political power and wealth involved. And it isn't just the Catholic church, but other denominations as well that still have to answer for much the same thing. How many missionaries have gone forth, ostensibly- to preach to the "unenlightened" masses and ended up using them instead because it profited them to do so? I'll bet there were any number of victims there.

Lady GoldenRaven (New Castle, Pennsylvania) - Email Me

"How many people accused of abuse are still sitting in parishes today?" she asked in a Thursday news conference.
If it is anything like the US of A. the answer would be most of them. Instead of prosecuting them, the Catholic church simply rotated them around to other parishes.
I don't get these guys. The preach sex is a sin unless for procreation. How can these priests even live with themselves or live in the church they so adore.

I have known about this kind of thing for a long, long time. There have been books and movies, factual, historical books and movies on the subject for more than 20 years.
For some examples, look up the movie (based on the book, which is a direct recollection of what really went on) about the Magdalene Laundries, otherwise known as the Magdalene Asylums. Hint: They were run by the Magdalene Sisters, of the Catholic Church in Ireland.
