Same-Sex Couples In D.C. Set To Say 'I Do'

Author: CNN Source: CNN

Title: SAME-SEX COUPLES IN D.C. SET TO SAY 'I DO'
D.C. joins Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts and Iowa in allowing same-sex marriage.
Dozens of same-sex couples plan to marry in the District of Columbia on Tuesday, the first day that such unions will be legal in the nation's capital.
The new law survived a Supreme Court challenge last week, when the measure went into effect, but couples had to hold off until Tuesday because of a three-day waiting period.
Sinjoyla Townsend and Angelisa Young say they have waited for years for this day. They were first in line last week to apply for a marriage license at Washington's marriage bureau. They will be among the first to marry Tuesday.

Terry (Irvington, Virginia) - Email Me

When is the vote on forcing rabid fundie churches to be assessed damage awards to past and ongoing victims of discrimination they conspire to create or proliferate?
There's certainly a right to attempt to amend laws, from Constitutions on down, but not to implement subordinate laws that wrongfully violate or abridge rights of others. That would include all state laws or Constitutional amendments of some states to ban marriage based on sexes of parties.
In many cases, existing legislative process requires a "legislative justification" statement to explain the purpose and legal basis for a new law. Despite politicians often flouting Constitutional limits, or finding devious excuses or frauds by which to sidestep or ignore them, all valid new laws are required to not conflict with Constitutional limits. It might help with this style of abuse of referendum process to maliciously deprive others of their civil rights to formally require that before any ballot question can be put to a vote, the proponents demonstrate how the initiative can result in a valid result under Constitutional standards and other legal fundamentals.
What would the legality be of a vote to subject any church or other tax privileged non-profit to a punitive tax, of 300% of revenues or 300% of gross assets, to respective revenue or property taxing authorities from which in the past equivalent exemptions have been had, and the same passed back to donors claiming itemized deductions where applicable, when such organizations conspire to violate civil rights of others via abuse of political process, as these anti-gay discrimination conspirators have done by attempting a referendum on yet another gay bashing ordinance? Even if no more legal than what these groups have attempted, introduction of such a measure could be an interesting way to raise consciousness on the issues of why voting on civil rights issues to attempt outcomes that cannot be legally valid should be excluded from referendum process.
