Who Ya Gonna Call?

Author: Jerry Nunn Source: The Bay City Times (MI)

Title: WHO YA GONNA CALL?
It started with a seance, a desperate plea to the spirit world in effort to change Randy Ervin's luck.
And boy, did it ever work. Once that door to evil was opened, the Standish man says, he spent three years possessed by demons before those spirits were eventually, mercifully, cast out.
Now, 20 years later, Ervin will recall the haunting and ensuing exorcism once again for the Discovery Channel's program, ''A Haunting.''
For Ervin, the tantalizing tale of terror is easily told. It was a lesson in evil he cannot forget.

''There was a chapter that told how to call up spirits who would show you where to find buried money,'' said Ervin. ''I thought, 'They can't be too bad. And if they are, I can always call up good sprits.' The problem is, the good spirits never showed up. "
He should also have used a spell for seeing what he was shown.
I don't know how many blind men have asked me to explain the color Purple.

. . .that the untrained should never fool with forces of which they have little or no knowledge or understanding.
Now I know many, if not most, will disagree with me, but since I've seen more and more books published on the occult I've also seen more and more of the uninitiated and untrained get into trouble which takes someone initiated and trained to get them out of.
As the saying goes, "If you play with fire, expect to get burned."

P.S. Or the guy could be full of crap, making up this story so he can get attention. Or not. . .who will ever know?

From the way the article reads it sounds like he's either delusional or making it up. One of the problems I have is the amount of time that has passed since the alleged demonic possession. Twenty years is a lot of time to get your story straight, if you get my drift. Another problem is the dearth of details, like the name of the shaman, the Catholic clergywoman, the existence of the Catholic clergywoman instead of the usual male clergy, and the only corroborating evidence is given by his sister. I mean really, it might have been demons, or then they say Native American spirits, then maybe something else, who knows?

... maybe this is some sort of parable describing the problem with greed. I must admit I'm skeptical, seeing as how the mention of dead natives comes into it and all. The hollywood idea of an 'old indian burial ground' seems kinda tacky, although I freely admit that I have no idea if something of that nature exists. I can only assume it does, since there's tons of christian cemetaries around.
But either way the person not have delved into anything he didn't understand. Conjouring is sketchy at best, and attempting to summon a spirit to answer questions for you could be considered questionable to start. After working with a local paranormal investigation team these last few months, I find that the majority of things are not what they seem. Maybe the possesion that occurred wasn't real at all, but merely a prolonged psychotic episode. But I'm no doctor, nor am I a priest, so all of this is just conjecture.
Another cup of coffee sounds good.
