 Perfect Excuse For A Little (Gardening) Witchcraft Author: Alan Titchmarsh Source: Daily Express (UK) Title: PERFECT EXCUSE FOR A LITTLE WITCHCRAFT From ghosties and ghoulies and long-legged beasties and things that go bump in the night, Good Lord, deliver us, goes the old Scottish prayer. But it has to be said that most of us love something slightly spooky and Hallowe’en is a perfect excuse. It’s all very ancient. In pre-Christian days, October 31 was celebrated as All Hallow’s Eve, when ghosts and spirits were thought to be at large, so superstitious people took steps to ward them off. But witches and wizards weren’t just for Hallowe’en. All sorts of plants have mystical and magical associations dating back centuries. Wild plants were used by “wise women” to make herbal remedies. Some also went in for spells designed to attract good fortune and large harvests or to make someone fall in love with you or even (allegedly) let you fly through the air or become invisible. | |

Ken Ra (Minneapolis, Minnesota) - Email Me Minneapolis St Paul. We have started a Garden club for Magical Folk ,Wiccans, Asatru, Heathens etc. In the first week we went from 1 to four hundred members. This may be a solution to how we associate with each other. Common needs ( compost ) common enemies ( bugs ) and an excuse for a party . |
