 Celebration Provides A Different Goodbye Author: Josh Potter Source: Montana Kaimin Title: CELEBRATION PROVIDES A DIFFERENT GOODBYE Swaying to an animalistic rhythm, dancers led the crowd at Caras Park in an enticing limbo, ensuring the uncertainty of death was celebrated with lively revelry. Nothing could hold the fervor in the tent last night, certainly not a spooky ring of well-placed candles. It seemed strange at first to think of death as the one thing that can get a shivering crowd, sipping coffee and breathing into their scarves, to erupt into a spinning cacophony of swirling arms and legs. Maybe it was aided by the full moon or the lingering energy from Halloween, but the instant feeling of freedom from inhibitions was brought on by something bigger. It could only come from celebrating something as universal as death. | |

bigcat (peoria, Illinois) - Email Me They have it wrong. Halloween is not and has never been a celebration of death, it is a remembrance. A recounting of those who came before and an acknowledgement of our own morality and the fears we have concerning that mortality. What is celebrated is life. The fact that we have come out from this darkest night to carry on living for at least another year. Sounds like they had a pretty good time. |
